The Terrific Class Trip

On December 2 my class and I went on an end of year trip to Kerikeri. First we went to The Parrot Place, then the park to have Dominos and then the movies to watch The Secret Garden. My favourite bit at The Parrot Place was holding the birds and feeding them. My favourite bit at the Park was eating the pizzas and having a turn on the swing. My favourite bit at the movies was when the boy could walk again.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!!

Measurement

In Te Maunga these past weeks we have been learning about measurement. For measurement I learnt that 1000 ml is 1 litre, something else that I learnt is that me and my group could fit 25 bottles in the bag. Last but not least I learnt how to weigh 600ml of bottles. Have you ever done a maths activity that includes measuring?

The Amazing Game Called T - Ball

In Te Maunga we have been doing T - Ball. T - Ball was only for the year fives, I am a year five so I don't have to worry. For T - ball you had fielders and batters, the batters are the people who bat the ball and run to each base. The fielders had to try to catch the ball and chuck it to the people by the base, they had to tap it on the base and hold it. What I enjoyed during  T - Ball was hitting the ball and running to each base, the thing I didn’t like was when someone got you out. My question for you is have you ever played T - Ball?

Cross Country

On the 25th of October Paihia School did cross country at Bledisloe Domain. My course was really big. First we had to go around the field, then we had to jump over the gate, run to the next gate, run up that hill to the other gate, and run to one of the teachers. After that you go past them and run to the last gate, then turn around the last gate, run down that hill all the way to the first gate we jumped over and run to the finish line. After the race I was pumped and I didn’t even want to walk all I wanted to do was lie on the floor and have a drink of my water. I was coming third the whole way just at the end I slowed down and came fourth.

Poetry

In Te Maunga we have been doing poetry. We had to identify language features used by authors to make writing more descriptive. In the texts that we had, we had to find alliteration, similes, metaphors, adjectives and adverbs. The one I learnt about the most was metaphors because I didn’t really understand what metaphors meant until now. A metaphor is comparing two different things without using like or as.

Vertices are basically corners but just different names. One of the activities I did was we had to colour in 3d shapes, then we had to cut, glue and there you have a 3d shape.

Treasure Hunt

In Te Maunga on 28th of August we did a Treasure hunt. We had to try and find these little gumboots. It was really hard because our gumboots were really little and it was smaller than the little kids so we had to turn our looking eyes on and take a good look. The prizes were rose gold headphones, a bag of lollies, chicken and chips pack from Four Square, a soccer ball, a handball, Eskimo pies and $5 dollars. We were raising money for Sam Godsiff - Johnson and the charity I Am Hope.

And That is my Friend Charlize who won a prize!!!

Probability

In Te Maunga we have been learning about probability. If you don’t know what probability is I will tell you, probability is a type of math where you do all these types of activities and a math DLO. What I learnt for probability is that when you're playing Sneaky Snakes the most common number is three well for us it was. What I liked the most was when my group was playing Spending Splurge and I got all of the items and they only got two of the items. My group was Manaaki and Luke.

How To Keep Safe Online

In Te Maunga we have been learning how to keep safe online. We also did a DLO about cybersmart and kawa of care, this is what I learnt. I learnt that you shouldn't accept a friend request from someone you don’t know but if it’s from someone you do know then you can accept it if you ask your parents first. You also have to be thirteen and over to have these apps, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat and Tik Tok. It's okay if you are doing Tik Toks and photos on your parents account just don’t tell people where you live, what number your letter box is and when it is your birthday.

For our diorama we did a theme about a volcano erupting. What I learnt was that dinosaurs were extinct sixty five million years ago, what I liked the most was doing the diorama and watching them erupt.

Diary Writing

In Te Maunga during the lockdown some of the year 5s got to take their chromebook home to finish off work at home. When we were at home we got some tasks to finish off. One of them was diary writing for one of the pages on my slides. I talked about what I did for the day. We also got to choose if we wanted to put pictures on our slide. For one of the days me and my family walked and did some gym stuff I didn’t see very much except for this little girl that comes to my school. Here are two of my pages for what I did on my slide Diary Writing.

Hygiene Post

In Te Maunga this week we have been learning how to make a DLO about washing our hands. My class learnt from this video that we had to wash our hands properly so you can get all the germs and viruses off. Yesterday on Thursday the 19th we did an experiment about how to keep viruses away it was really cool because when you put the soap in with the pepper all the pepper went to the side of the bowl. That is how viruses and germs go off when you wash your hands with soap.
