The Celebration Of Shivam's 10th Birthday

In Te Ngahere we went to Greens Indian Cuisine in Paihia because it

was Shivams birthday. Shivams parents own the restaurant so we all

got to eat for free. We were celebrating his 10th birthday with the

whole class, the teachers, the amazing cooks and his family. When

we were settled in for lunch we said our karakia and then got given

our food. We had butter chicken with rice and garlic naan bread.

When I tasted the butter chicken it was so nice and delicious that I

wanted more. It was so generous and kind of them to invite us to their

restaurant. When we all finished our food two of my classmates Angela

(my sister) and Jade said a mihi for the whole class and gave Shivam a

card. Just before we left we asked everyone to come to the front of the

restaurant so we could do a performance and show how grateful and

happy we are. We did a few waiata and on the last waiata we sang with

all we’ve got to show how grateful we were. At the end they gave us all

a big easter egg to say happy easter and thanks for coming to celebrate

Shivam’s birthday.

Magnificent Maths Evidence

In Te Ngahere we have been learning maths. For maths I have been learning

equal additions. We had to do a screencastify about our maths evidencing

and what we learnt.

I learnt how to use equal additions subtraction.

I think it is the best strategy for me because it was easy for me to solve

problems, especially subtraction. It is also the best strategy for me because

I got the hang of it pretty quickly. It is very easy and helpful. I really liked

learning how to do equal additions because it was it was fun to learn another

way of subtracting.

Tidying Our Drives

In Te Ngahere we learnt how to tidy our drives for cybersmart. To tidy our drive we had to make sure that everything was filed and named. If you have an untitled google doc, drawing or slide then we had to put it in trash and delete it. We had to sort everything out and make sure that there is appropriate things in our drive.

First we we were given a google presentation to teach us how to clean our drive and keep it tidy. It was called “John’s messy drive”. We had sort everything in the right folders and make sure everything is named and filed. We had to put a red circle around the presentations that is not named at all and put a blue circle around the presentations that is not named correctly. Once we have finished our presentation we had to clean our own drive and take a screenshot to prove it is tidy. By the time you have finished your drive it should be clean and have no untitled docs, no unfiled docs and be name correctly.  Here is My Presentation

What does your classroom do for cybersmart?

Master The Tasks

Lately in Te Ngahere we have been learning how to contribute and collaborate with our learning group. The task was called Taskmaster. We had to copy what our teacher drew on a piece of paper hanging up on the window outside. The challenge was that there was two walkers and one drawer only the walkers could go outside and have a look at the picture then the walkers in your group has too explain what to draw and where to draw it.   It was a Team building activity

Attempt one: The thing that was challenging was trying to have the right words in a way that my group Tiana and

Te Hauata would understand and not saying the same thing over and over again. The hard thing was everyone was yelling at you saying this, saying that and you are not understanding what they’re saying. What didn’t work well was they say something, then you draw it and then they say no not that and you have something that you don’t even know what you drew on your piece of paper. What did work well was once I got use to them telling me the instructions it got easier and they weren’t repeating the same thing over and over again and just getting louder.

Attempt Two: What we changed for attempt two was I changed to the runner from the drawer. What was challenging  was being the runner instead if the drawer. That was hard because I was not giving my buddie the right instructions so that she understood what I meant. What worked well was when we did attempt one it was hard, but when my buddie got used to us telling her instructions she knew what to do for attempt two. What I learnt was it is better when you explain and contribute with your group instead of just sitting there. I also learnt that instead of saying the same thing over and over again while getting louder you should try saying something else in a way they can understand you.

Have you ever done an activity like this before?

My Aunty’s Best Surprise Ever

At the end of February my family and I surprised my Aunty for her birthday. The day we were doing the surprise we took her out so that they could set up. We told her that we were having a family meeting and having a girls day out for her birthday. We had to act normal so that she doesn’t suspect anything and that we are being all suspicious. My whole family knew about it but her. We first took her to a cafe in Kerikeri, it was called The Rusty Tractor. We had a nice breakfast there and before we left the owner surprised her with a little cake. After breakfast we went to the market and had a little walk around we also  got her some presents for her birthday but we said she couldn’t open them till we get home. After the market we went to Makanna cafe to have a hot Chocolate (my sister got  ice cream instead). When we got back home we went inside to see if they cleaned up because they said they would but they didn’t. When she went outside she was so happy and felt loved more than ever. My cousin who is her daughter videoed it all and she also made her cake.

Have you ever thrown a surprise party before?

The Most Insane Learning About Food Webs

In Te Ngahere he have been learning about how food webs. We had to make a copy of this google drawing. Food webs are a chain to show what animal eats what and where the energy transfers to and from.

The arrows point form the animal to the predator because the predator gets the energy from the animal and while the predator is eating it the energy flows and transfers through its body. I enjoyed learning about food webs because I got to learn what the birds in our ngahere eat and get eaten by. I learnt that stoats eat rats and possums. Once I finished my food web I had to compare mine to theirs to see what is different about each others.

The difference about theirs is that they have more arrows, it is in different coloured coordinated so that people know where the energy transfers to and from last but not least  The things that is different about mine is that mine has two boxes explaining what happens to the kereru if it eats to many kowhai, my arrows are just black and my arrows were just straight, theirs was diagonal, straight ect(ect means extra).

Have you learnt about food web before?

The Most Remarkable Facts about Measurement

In Te Ngahere last week we learnt about measurement and I really

enjoyed it. There was only like one or two measurements that were

hard. It was converting and estimating. What I liked about measurement

was learning how to use a measuring tape accurately. What I didn’t like

was when you had to pull your measuring tape slowly so it doesn't go

flying back in and then it breaks.

Have you ever used a measuring tape before?

The Scary Tsunami Evacuation

On Friday when my dad was dropping me and my sister off to school

we saw a big line so we thought that everybody was late. Then we were

about to go into school there was these wonderful people who told us that

there was a tsunami about to happen. It was very scary.

I was telling my dad come on daddy come on we have to go. I was so scared

that my older sister was like shhhhh (but then she got a little scared).

We didn’t go up the hill we went back home to tell my mum. As soon as

we told my mum we got some clothes and food, then we loaded the stuff and

went inland to my brothers house in Moerewa. When we got to my brothers

house I felt very safe because the tsunami had to get over all the hills. While my

family and I were waiting for the Tsunami to end we played some games had a

feed then a little rest and repeated that until they told us that the tsunami ended.

We waited four hours for the Tsunami to end.

Have you ever had to evacuate from a tsunami in school before or anywhere?

Incredible Learning About Ecosystems

In Te Ngahere we have been learning about ecosystems and how they work. I made a google  drawing to explain the cycle of an ecosystem.

What I learnt is that if something from one of the cycles went missing then the cycle would not work and most things will die.

All of this is new learning but when I got the hang of it, it was pretty easy.  I enjoyed learning about ecosystems. What I enjoyed the most was learning new things. What I improved on ecosystems was understanding the cycle of an ecosystem.

What do you know about ecosystems?

Facts You Need to Know About the Kawa of Care

In Te Ngahere the first two weeks in my class we have been learning about kawa of care. We could either choose to make a google doc, google drawing, Animation or you can make a comic. I chose to do a comic.

What I learnt for kawa of care is that you should never charge your chromebook with your case on because it will damage your cord. I also found out that if you are charging your chromebook while using it you should charge it on a flat surface.

Do you know the Kawa Of Care?
