Four Shot Movie Making

Kia ora, in Te Ngahere we have been making four shot movies to help us with our real movie.

We got to choose what it was about and we had to include four shots establishing shot, long

distance, mid shot and close up. If you are wondering what each shot is establishing shot is

where the movie will take place, long distance is introducing your character for the first time,

mid shot shows you more information and detail about your character and close up is what

the character is doing or holding. For mid shot I don’t think we did it properly because we

didn’t really get the meaning of it because it’s supposed to show half of your characters

body but we showed the characters whole body. What I think my group did well was we

filmed establishing shot, long distance and close up really well but not mid shot. What we

could have done better was filmed our mid shot how you are actually supposed to film it.

How this four shot movie has helped me to make my proper movie is that I know what

shots are good for each scene of your movie and I know what these shots are. I learnt

what these four shots are, what they mean and how to film a movie.

Have you done a four shot movie before?

I Am Hope!

Kia Ora, on Tuesday we had two special visitors from I Am Hope and their names were Tai and Trent. Tai is the man who told us a story about his life when he was growing up and also about mental health. Trent is Tai’s bodyguard, he makes sure that Tai is ok and safe. What my favourite part about Tai’s story was when he went to go see the counselor and she told him to go to all the things he loved. What stood out for me the most was when he told us his family has been lying to him about his dad not being his real dad. What I learnt was that right now there are a lot of people out their in world that say they are ok but actually they aren’t and if you say you are going to be there for them you have to be there for them. I also learnt what a inner critic voice is and voice of reason. Inner critic voice is a voice in your head that says negative things about you and the reasons voice is a voice that says positive and kind things about you. After I heard Tai’s story’s I will start giving people hope and encouragement.

Has Tai and his crew came to your school before?

Science Fair Reflection

Kia Ora, in Te Ngahere we have been doing Science Fair non stop. For the Science Fair we got to choose our own group and I chose Anika and Marley. For our science experiment we wanted to find out what washing powder will wash chilli sauce, red paint and mud the most. What I learnt from this is what a independent variable is, dependent variable and controlled variable. I also learnt how write a method, manage your time and to think about who you choose to do the Science Fair with. This was a difficult experience because I’ve never done before and I found quit a few things difficult. I found that when someone in your group is away you need help, I also found writing the method, writing variables and testing your experiment was difficult. What I would do next time we do the science fair is choose the right people to do it with and choose a different experiment. The four hoe we have in Paihia School is Tu Maia which is resilience, Kaha which is being strong, Manaakitanga which is respect and Whanaungatanga which is helping each other. Out of those four hoe I used Kaha and Tu Maia because sometimes we would want give up because we were in the pit but in the end we finished and got it done.

Dot Plot Reflection

Kia ora bloggers last week we started maths called Statistics and the title of the problem we were doing was winning dots. We had to gather data from room 1 and 2 to make a dot plot graph and make a DLO explaining all these different questions and answering true or false questions. Almost everyone including me was confused and lost for what the word range meant. So the teachers asked us to come on the mat so they can explain it to the class. Now we know that a range of number is when you take the highest number and lowest number then you subtract the lowest number from the highest number and then you will get your answer (or what it equals). I thought it meant how far you threw it. I made the maths DLO with a member from my maths group and her name is Ana - Maria. In our DLO we got mixed up on the true or false questions because we were getting mixed up with all the words so close to each other. Something we could of made better in our DLO and what we are going to do next is explain it in a way that everyone can understand and try not to mix up with the words.

Have you done statistics before?

The Shrinking Island!

Kia ora, in Te Ngahere on the first day of term 3 we had a fun start to the

day by doing a challenge from  taskmaster. The challenge was called Shrinking

island and you had to get  into groups of 4 or 5. Each group had to get a piece

newspaper for our shrinking island. Before we started this challenge we had 5

minutes to think of our strategy for each round so we can complete to the next

round and we had to stay on the island for 5 seconds. To do this challenge all of

our group had to stand on the newspaper when the timer started we had to try

not to touch the ground so we could move onto the next round. Each round we

stood on the newspaper and asked the teacher to count to five seconds so we

could pass that round. If we fell off the island and the teacher hasn't finished

counting to 5 then we are out. If we didn’t pass the round then we would have

to just sit and watch the other teams do the next round. When everybody had

been checked by the teachers and  had stood on their  island for 5 seconds they

had to  fold the fgv newspaper in half and all of your group has to stand on the

island. The group who can get their newspaper the smallest wins. My group was

Charlize, Anika, Alana and I. The first round my group and I made it up to round 3

or 4. The teacher confirmed to my sister Angela’s group that they had won. Then

the teachers decided to do another round but with 3 people in a group. Everyone

did the same thing just with 3 people in their group. For take 2 my new group

was Charlize, Mahana & I. I am so happy because my group and I made it to

the final round, in the final round there was three other teams left and we

were so close but none of the four teams made it. I like this challenge because

it was very fun enjoying it with your team and especially on the first day back

to school. I also like this because this challenge really made my group and I think

about our strategy for that round.

Have you ever done a taskmaster challenge like this before?

That's my group and I, i'm the one with the black jacket!

The World of Amazing Marble Ramps

Kia ora, on the last day of term 2 we did the Great Marble Challenge take 2. We did this challenge because we wanted people to have another chance to beat their old score and to get ready for the science fair to learn about variables. We were aloud to make another ramp if we wanted to or just modify (change) our ramp.

My group and I decided to modify our ramp instead of building a new ramp. The first time I did the marble ramp challenge I thought that the design we had for our marble ramp was pretty good because we tested the ramp and it got pretty close to 5 points (110cm). For the marble challenge take 1 we came second place with 24 points and for the marble challenge take 2 we didn’t come in the leaderboard and I can’t remember our points. I think that my group and I didn’t improve because we didn’t get as much points as last time  and our ramp was loose but it’s okay because we tried. What I enjoyed the most was that on the last day of term 2 my mum was there and she got to see my sisters ramp and my ramp  getting tested. I enjoyed it because my group and I got 5 points for one of the rolls.

Have you done a challenge like this before?
